What is the best wireless internet service provider/speed for laptops, in terms of price and reliability?

Thomas S asked:

I have done some research, and it seems 5GB is like, the standard limit, with $.25 per MB or GB over the limit(forget which).

What service is the best? Also is 5GB really that much internet time(exclude any downloading) for just casual browsing/research and IMing people? Is it a good amount for daily gaming?

I would go with either ATT or Verizon. The answer you choose depends on where you are located. I think Verizon would give you the best average speeds across the USA, but if ATT has 3G available then they should have the speed advantage. Five GB of data usage should be plenty if all you are doing is searching the internet. Each page you load is less than 1 MB probably around 500KB each and 5 GB works out to around 5000MB. So that’s saying you should be able to view somewhere between 5 and 10 thousand web pages a month with that. I wouldn’t plan on doing any gaming with a wireless isp because even if the speed you can get is good the delay it takes for the information to travel across the air will be far longer than with dsl or cable.

I might be way off with the size of web pages this page here under page info says its only 12kb, so that’s really a lot of page views.
