macbook air wireless options - no internet access, need wireless card/plan?

E A asked:

What options are available for getting wireless internet access with a MacBook Air if the person will be staying somewhere without internet access (no ethernet, cable, dial-up)? Other people there have a Verizon wireless internet plan.

How can I find out what wireless plans like that you can get for the MacBook Air? Do I buy a card through a provider? I read about needing a USB dongle? Do I get that through Apple?
Do most providers offer wireless internet service for the MacBook Air?

Because the MacBook Air does not have an Express Card Slot, you can’t use the typical wireless card. You’ll have to get one of the USB receivers. Contact AT&T, Verizon, or another company that will have service in where you are traveling. You’ll buy the USB thing from them (at a discounted rate, maybe even free). But you MUST sign up for a 2-year contract, and I believe it is between $60 and $80 per month. If you have a newer cell phone already, ask them about tethering (using your cell phone signal as a modem and bluetoothing the internet signal to your MBA).

    Hope this helps!
