nurse123410 asked:
Ok so heres how is it. I have a laptop(no pc).. my mom is getting rid of my service provider by the end of the month.I have wireless internet connected 2 the router right now with a service provider.
My question is can you connect to the internet in any possible way? I checked around..all the routers around me are secure.
I heard that you can get the internet with a wireless network card and a cable modem/router.
Is that true? for a laptop?

Whatever way you get to the internet, you still need an ISP to go anywhere.
first of all, a laptop is a type of PC (PC stands for personal computer, so a Mac is also a PC).
Right now, you have wireless internet, right? almost like satellite, but you don’t have to have a phoneline?
If you have dumb neighbors who haven’t secured their wireless network you might be able to ride their signal. a cable modem won’t work without cable.
If your wireless card in your notebook is picking up other networks, but they are secure, you dont need any other hardware. No matter what you do the outcome will be the same: you need someones passkey to their network.
Getting another router wont help, as you need to still connect a broadband connection to it. The only other possibility I can think of is to drive around your block and see if an UNsecure network shows up. If it does, then you can get a range extender (repeater) to boost the signal. These devices are relatively inexpensive and most are easy to setup. Otherwise you will have to take your notebook to your local library and hope they offer WIFI access. You can also go online and see if there are Public WIFI hotspots in your area.
Sorry, that is about all you can do. Without a signal to work with, you just wont get connected.
