Wireless Internet Service Provider?

TaffySam asked:

I want to buy a wireless router for my laptop. My question is if I purchase it from somewhere else like bestbuy or meritline will I need a service provider in order to use it or will I just be able to hook it up without it? Also where can I find information about how much it would cost to get one from the service provider?

Right now I’m using a pc card from verizon that belongs to my dad. My computer is equiped with wireless internet and when I stayed at my friends house I used there wireless router to go online. They went through verizon since that is there phone company. So I just need to know do I need to go through AT&T since that is our phone company or should I get another PC card but will I need a service provider.

Having a router is a good start, but you’ll need a service provider as well.
My family uses TransACT and ActewAGL (which actually does TransACT internet as well) and it’s pretty cheap compared to some other providers.
So, yes. You will need a service provider.

hey wireless router is only an access point. It is required to be connected with some computer having internet service account. if ur wireless router comes in a package bundeled with Internet Service like AT & T then u will be paying for the service also. there will be additional charges for that. its same like cell phone coming with a mobile service.
